Description
Score: 95 pts James Suckling
Polígonos Gualtallary Cabernet Franc is a precise expression of the high-altitude terroir of Gualtallary, Tupungato, in the Valle de Uco, Mendoza. Part of the Polígonos del Valle de Uco project by Zuccardi, this wine seeks to capture the identity of specific villages within the valley and reflect the diversity of their landscapes, climates, and soils.
The vineyards are located at approximately 1,360 meters (4,462 ft) above sea level, in the foothills of the Cordillera Frontal. Gualtallary is characterized by a temperate and arid high-altitude desert climate, with significant thermal amplitude between warm sunny days and cool nights. The rugged terrain contains soils with a high content of calcium carbonate, formed by overlapping layers of sand, caliche, and stones, which contribute freshness, structure, and a distinctive mineral character.
The 2024 vintage was temperate and dry, allowing a slow and progressive ripening process. This resulted in healthy grapes and wines with natural acidity, freshness, structure, balance, and elegance.
Fermented with native yeasts in concrete vessels and aged in 500-liter barrels and 2,500-liter used French oak foudres, the wine preserves the purity of fruit while highlighting the character of its origin.
